My Town Friday Shoot Out: Building Study

I did it! I'm so excited! I finally got to shoot at a location I've been wanted to do for such a long time. And it was perfect for this Shoot Out.

Almost 6 years ago, my husband and I move our little family to the Detroit area from Ohio. Each and every time we went "home" I noticed this one specific building. It caught my eye and mesmerized me. I wondered the story behind this abandoned building. There had to be a story!

I found a website, Forgotten Detroit, where I found the building I had been wondering about for so long: The Michigan Central Depot, or "The Depot". If you have a few moments, I invite you to visit the link to see The Depot in all it's former glory. Be sure to look at the photos of the inside, taken by a much braver photographer than I.

These photos were all taken from my car or just outside my car. I could not do any better without leaving my comfort zone completely. Thank you, MTFSO team, for finally giving me the opportunity I've been waiting for!

Isn't that an amazing old building and how sad that's it's empty and getting older and older ..

Great job!

That is so sad. I mean it is a great photo essay of what a lot of the country, especially Detroit, has become.

What a beautiful building it was in its heyday. It makes me cry to think that old buildings like that are falling apart.

Outstanding work.

This certainly is a magnificent building, especially for a train station. How sad to see its decline. After all the money spent on renovations, you'd think that they would have protected the property better. Great photos and a wonderful shoot-out. Your pictures are awesome.

Wow, this is a grand old building that still looks so impressive. A reminder of Detroit's better days.

looking at the broken glass window, I presume there is a new depot.

Great shots...especially from a car! The more I shoot the larger my comfort zone gets. Keep shooting!

I've seen this! I begged Louis to stop so I could go photograph it. He looked at me like I was insane.

If I am not mistaken, and I usually am, isn't this where they found the frozen guy? Google Detroit Frozen Man, it is SO creepy.

Jen, it's not a safe place, but on a rainy Sunday afternoon, it wasn't bad really. Especially if you had Louis along.

The frozen man was found in the Roosevelt Warehouse. That's a *different* abandoned Detroit building. There are so many of them it's easy to get them confused.

I remember waiting in this building for Ron's Aunts to arrive from Topeka via Amtrak in the late 70's early 80's.
